MARGAO: Margao Municipal officials on Friday conducted site panchanama of the furniture stalls erected along the Ravindra Bhavan road to ensure they have not encroached on the footpaths and along the roads.
A municipal team led by Market Inspector Mohan Arlekar descended at the site with a posse of policemen to conduct the panchanama and to note down the names and addresses of violators, if any. Arlekar told media persons that he has conducted the site panchanama based on an office order issued by Chief Officer Deepali Naik, with clear cut direction that no stalls shall be erected on footpaths as it shall be kept open for pedestrians.
“The chief officer has made it clear that any violation of the directives will amount to contempt of orders of the High Court, besides liable to face all legal action,” Arlekar said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Green Goa Foundation Raison Almeida has said that he would file a contempt petition against the district Collector and the Margao Municipal chief officer if the High Court order is violated during the feast fair. “I have served notices on the Collector and the chief officer. I want to make clear that I will not withdraw my petition in the High Court,” he said.
