The Margao Municipal Council’s Standing Committee on Friday approved Rs 94 lakh surplus budget for the financial year 2011-12.
While the revenue was pegged at Rs 44.78 crore, the expenditure was put at Rs 43.84 crore, leaving a surplus of Rs 94 lakh.
During discussions on the budget proposals, the members discussed the contentious issue of implementing the plinth area for calculating house tax as against carpet area norm followed by the civic body for many years now.
MMC Chairperson Sushila Naik informed that the civic body expect grant-in-aid to the tune of Rs 10 crore towards developmental work and another Rs six crore on octroi.
Incidentally, the budget estimates put the revenue from house tax to Rs five crore when outstanding house tax arrears runs into crores of rupees.
On the expenditure front, the civic body has made provision for the rehabilitation of the displaced kiosk owners, besides provision towards the purchase of a night soil tanker and garbage trucks.
The budget proposal will now be placed before the meeting of the council later this month for approval.
