VASCO: Ongoing confusion over allotment and location of stalls at the Vasco Saptah fair generated further controversy, with the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) revoking licenses of 411 stalls for failing to carry out business activities at the fair.
In a bid to streamline the Saptah fair, the MMC had allotted spaces on the basis of business activities and licenses were given on first-come first-serve basis.
While on one hand there was utter confusion over allotment of stalls after traditional vendors demanded spaces occupied during previous years, there were other vendors who failed to carry out their business activities despite being allotted spaces at more prominent locations.
When contacted, MMC Chief Officer Y B Tavde said he along with his team of market inspectors and other MMC staff surveyed the Saptah fair on Tuesday and revoked around 411 stalls for failing to carry out business activities and for keeping the spaces idle.
“We have re-allotted spaces unused by vendors. All 411 vendors will lose their deposits as they failed to carry out their business activities,” Tavde said.
