In a high-tension scenario that unfolded on Thursday, the Margao Municipal Council, in collaboration with the South Goa Planning & Development Authority, executed a crackdown on fish vendors, including ramponkars who sell retail fish within the wholesale fish market premises. This operation was carried out under the watchful eye of a significant police presence, and subsequently, the authorities led a march towards the SGPDA office.
The fishermen community has raised concerns and accusations against the government, asserting that it has failed to provide adequate provisions for the ramponkars operating in the Margao wholesale fish market.”
