VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council on Friday decided to appoint a Chartered Accountant to study how the Municipality is supposed to pay a penalty of 59 lakh on GST to Central government.
In its special council meeting, it was informed that since year 2007, MMC had not paid GST tax and it was not charged from the people. The total amount which had come up to 54 lakh was paid the Municipality. But MMC was penalised 59 lakh by the government for the delay in paying. Therefore, to study and sort out this issue, the councillors decided to appoint a private Chartered Accountant on the monthly salary of Rs 40,000.
In another issue, Councillor Kritesh Gaunkar urged the chairperson not to seal the Goa Sahakar Bhandar for its pending dues, as such decision may backfire on the common men from Vasco.
Gaunkar demanded to seal all the establishments, which are due to pay their taxes to MMC if chairperson feels to seal Goa Sahakar Bhandar.
In a heated discussion over the pending dues of the Goa Sahakar Bhandar, initially, councillor Fredriche Henrique said that if the Goa Sahakar Bhandar has 1.12 crore due to pay to MMC, then it should be sealed.
