PANJIM: The Forum for Rights of Children’s Education (FORCE) is firm about the September 30 deadline given by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to provide a solution to the Medium of Instruction issue.
“The chief minister himself is on record to say that he would come with a solution on the MOI issue by September 30 this year and the PTAs insist on the same,” Savio Lopes, Secretary and spokesman for FORCE said .
Lopes opined that it was a matter of concern that the committee appointed especially to look into the MoI issue has still not met even though a month has passed since its constitution.
With 10 days to go before the expiry of the month end deadline set by FORCE for a solution to the MoI issue, Lopes said, “We are hoping for some solutions by then , failing which we will call the GBM to chalk out the future course of action.”
Director of Education Anil Powar when contacted said, “The file has been submitted to the government for setting a date for the meeting.”
A meeting of the committee has not yet been convened even though it was constituted more than a month ago.
Meanwhile, Adv Uday Bhembre, member of Bhartiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch said, “As far as my knowledge goes the committee constituted by the government to deliberate and find solutions to the MoI issue has not yet been notified in the gazette.”
In his opinion the committee will have no legal status unless notified. Adv Bhembre said, “I would like to see that a decision is arrived at as early as possible,” adding that any major decision that needs to be implemented for the new academic year, as per education department requirements, should be taken latest by November.
Both Adv Bhembre and Lopes are special invitees on the government constituted MoI committee.
