PERNEM: Morjim residents are frustrated with the state of the roads in their village. Their constant pleas to the PWD to repair the potholes roads has fallen on deaf ears. Left with no choice, they set out on a novel idea to draw the attention of the PWD, to their plight.
On Monday, locals of Morjim hit upon a brilliant plan. They set out to plant tree saplings in all the potholes that plague most parts of the roads in Morjim. Like an army they traced every pothole and planted tree sapplings.
This was done to draw attention of the PWD towards the dire situation of the roads and to highlight the urgency of repairs. Irate locals told media that the potholed roads had taken numerous lives of young Goans. To prevent further accidents, they have demanded that the PWD immediately repair the ‘deadly’ roads.
Morjim local, Albert Fernandes said, “See the state of the roads, two boys fell in these potholes and they were injured. I want to ask the traffic police, why they come to fine the people in Morjim, cant they see the gaping potholes and take videos? Do you want people to fall and break their bones? Even those locals who give their vehicles on hire suffer losses due to bad roads. If there is road side parking the traffic police immediately fine vehicle users. Why can’t they see the potholes?”
