Mormugao civic dy chief denies he is a voter in UP

VASCO, OCT 22 Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Vice Chairperson Kashinath Yadav has appeared before Mormugao Deputy Collector and Electoral Registration Officer Levinson Martins, claiming that he is not the person, whose name has been registered in the electoral roll in UP.

It may be recalled that Martins had issued a notice to Yadav under Representation of People Act 1950, based on media reports that Yadav and his family members allegedly figured in the electoral roll in Sikrara Block under Jaunpur District, UP,as per the 2009 electoral roll.
Incidentally, Yadav along with family members figure in Ward 15 of Vasco constituency.
As per Section 17 of Representation of the People Act 1950, no person shall be entitled to be registered in the roll for more than one constituency and in the event of any false declaration to the effect, it is punishable under Section 31 of Representation of the People Act.
“Appearing before Martins, Yadav claimed he is not the person, whose name has appeared on the electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh,” said Mormugao Joint Mamlatdar Brijesh Manerkar.
“Yadav further claimed that he along with his family members are registered in Vasco constituency,” said Manerkar.
“We have sought report from concerned Area Registration Officer (ARO) of Vasco constituency, where Yadav is registered.A similar report will be sought from the ARO of the concerned area in UP,” added Manerkar.
He further informed that the next order of Friday’s hearing will be given on October 26.
