These three women contestants are battling it out in ward no 19 of the Margao municipal council reserved for women.
Sangeeta Audi, Carol Hajira Bi and Carol Poinguincar are locked in a triangular fight and are leaving no stone unturned to lure the voters.
Ward no 19 is part of the ward which has a sizeable voters from the migrant inhabited Moti Dongor. Considered a vote bank, the candidates and their supporters are making their presence felt atop the hillock to lure the migrants in support of their candidature.
If Sangeeta claims that her social work would keep her in good stead, Carol Bi and carol Poinguinkar says that they have drawn up a plan of action to improve the civic amenities in the ward.
Incidentally, the candidature of Carol Poinguinkar has been backed by the Margao Loksamiti and also by the BJP. Wife of builder Sandeep Poinguinkar, Carol said she would accord priority for the construction of a satellite market at Aquem, which would solve the burning problem of traffic congestion in the main city. Also, she has disclosed plans to construct a garden earmarked for the area. “My aim is to lay a drainage system in the ward and keep the area clean”, she added.
Sangeeta Audia is a familiar face in the city’s social arena, having taken up problems of the people with the authorities for redressal. And, Sangeeta says that if she could do so much for the common man without power of a councilor, she can do much better being a City Father.
Expressing her unhappiness over the state of affairs, she has promised to take up sanitation and drainage work in the ward and impart training and work for women empowerment.
On the other hand, Carol Hajira Bi says ward No 19 has been a neglected lot over the year and promises to usher in some improvement if elected to the Civic body. “There are hutments in the jurisdiction of my ward and there is absence of drainage facility. I want to make further improvements in the ward”, she added.
Politically speaking, ward no 19 falls in the Margao Assembly constituency represented by the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, whose influence over the voters inhabiting the Moti Dongor is well known.
