VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council has adopted a resolution to charge fees for parking in Vasco town.
The resolution was adopted on at the ordinary meeting of the council on Thursday, which witnessed heated discussions on the rise in the dengue cases and unavailability of fogging machines in all wards.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Municipal Chairman Nandadeep Raut said that many councillors were in favour of pay parking to streamline parking in the town.
“Railway station, the area near KTC shuttle service, the space in front of the municipality building will likely to be made pay parking areas,” he said adding, “Few councillors were against parking and opined that pay parking should be done only after the new parking facility at the MMC garage comes up.”
Strongly supporting the move to make the space near the municipal building pay parking, Councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar pointed out that that many taxis and rent-a-cab are seen parked throughout the day at this stretch depriving other visitors to park their vehicles.
Councillor Nilesh Navelkar said called for clearing any encroachments in parking space.
Councillor Lavina De Souza pleaded with the council to undertake fogging in her ward, from where she said, several dengue cases have been reported. She also revealed that despite of several requests she has been deprived of fogging machine in her ward.
Similarly, Councillors Saifullah Khan, Murari Bandekar and Bhavan Bhosle complained that they are yet to undertake the fogging in their wards due to unavailability of fogging machines.
Meanwhile, Raut informed the council that he has received a letter from DMA to charge fee for the registration of domesticated dogs. The charges are: hybrid dogs Rs 450, normal breed Rs 350 and Indian Pariah dogs Rs 250. The registration will have to be renewed every year.
Raut also informed the council that he has received a proposal to shift the stray cattle to a shed at Sangolda and sought the council’s opinion on the same.
On coal transportation from Vasco town, Raut said that he has sent a reminder to the deputy collector to stop the transportation. “All the council members will likely come on the road to protest coal transportation that begins from November 1,” he warned.
Commenting on the maintenance of CCTV cameras, Raut said that the expenditure on the repair of these CCTV cameras is estimated to be 5 lakh and it was installed under MPLAD scheme. “Now we have requested the MP to undertake the repair work of these CCTV cameras under his scheme,” he said.
