PANJIM: Claiming there is no prima facie evidence in the death of Fr Bismarque Dias and hence no need to hand over the case to Crime Branch (CB), Goa Police said that a murder case will be registered only after receiving the viscera report.
Addressing the media at Police Headquarters at Panjim on Thursday, DIG V Ranganathan said there were no ante mortem injuries found by either of the autopsies carried out on the body by the panel of GMC doctors. He, however, said that with due respect to the sentiments of the relatives they are investigating all possible causes of death.
“All information given by the locals and relatives of Fr Bismarque are being looked into and the case is being monitored from the Police Headquarters,” Ranganathan said.
The DIG said that the viscera has been sent for chemical analysis and will be deposited with the ISFL on Friday.
Fr Bismarque’s death on November 6 has remained a mystery, with the family and villagers claiming it to be murder, and the exact cause of death not revealed in the post-mortem report.
DIG Ranganathan said there is no need to send this case to Crime Branch for investigation claiming it is not a case which needs CB investigation.
Asked what is the criteria for a case to be handed over to CB, he said, “Whenever there is any case in which the local police has some kind of allegations against them then it is handed over to the Crime Branch and if investigation needs to be done outside Goa, when necessary at the level of Crime Branch, then it is handed over to Crime Branch,” said DIG Ranganathan.
The crucial and very key part of the investigation to establish primary suspicion is finger prints. According to Ranganathan the finger prints on the beer bottles found at sluice gate have not been analyzed yet and hence the possible presence of a fourth person cannot be ruled out.
