MARGAO: Rejecting the queue system mooted by the South Goa District Collector in respect of the bauxite ore transportation from Naqueri-Betul, local truck owners of Naqueri on Tuesday stopped all transportation of the ore from the mine in protest against the queue system.
They contended that they were totally bypassed at the meeting which took a decision on the queue system and maintained the same was attended by those truck owners who rooted for that particular system.
On Tuesday, even the huge police force mobilized from the Margao police sub-division could not ensure the resumption of the transportation. An attempt to start the transportation with the help of police force at around 6 pm was foiled by the Naqueri villagers as they blocked the road and stopped the ore-laden trucks at Quittol, leaving the police helpless. Though no complaint is registered at the Cuncolim police station, members of the media said a truck owner was assaulted by a Naqueri local.
Earlier in the day, agitated over the decision by the District Collector, the local truck owners assembled at the main gate at the Naqueri mine and stopped all transportation of the ore. They protested over the rejection of the demand to give two trips for local truck owners.
Krishna Sawant Desai told the media at the site that ore transportation will not be allowed from the mine unless the local truck owners are given two trips by the mine owner.
