PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Goa Unit flayed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday for naming the multipurpose indoor stadium at Taleigao Plateau after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and submitted a memorandum to North Goa Collector demanding that the name be replaced with the name of a Goan leader or sports personality.
Party President Nilkanth Halarnkar, who led the delegation to Collector Mihir Vardhan accused the Goa government of being a totalitarian with intention to implement RSS agenda since Mukherjee was the founder of Janasangh and RSS, both strong Hindu outfits.
“This is a shocking decision for every Goan and we want to bring to your kind notice that this decision shows the totalitarian functioning of the government which intends to implement RSS agenda secretly and disturb the communal harmony of Goa,” the memorandum reads.
“This is a great insult to Goans and from this decision of the Goa government it appears that the Chief Minister (Manohar Parrikar) has taken all Goans for granted and he feels that nobody will oppose his totalitarian functioning,” it says while strongly opposing the present name of the stadium where the ongoing Lusofonia Games are going on. It has asked the government not to saffronise sport and education at Goa University Campus. Former Minister Jose Philip D’Souza, General Secretary Avinash Bhosle and spokesman Trajano De Mello were present besides several workers who shouted slogans and held a dharna in front of the Collectorate building.
