The
Education Department has said that permissions for setting new Higher Secondary
Schools (HSS) shall be purely dependent on the STD X board exam results and the
number of seats available in all the existing HSS courses.

Speaking
to Herald, Education Director, G.P. Bhat said “The department had received 21
applications for setting up new Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) across Goa for
the year 2017-18, which included aided as well as unaided schools but the
condition for granting the permissions will be purely depend on the STD X board
exam results and the number of seats vacant in all the existing HSS courses”
“First
of all there are adequate HSS in Goa or we can say more than required and
further there is a tendency that students might want to go an urban area, we
will see whether the nearby HSS has any vacant seats or not and for that
purpose we have kept 3 windows open that is North, South and Central zonal
offices, they have to register there and if it is not possible to accommodate
then will think otherwise not. Especially if we see in rural areas there are
hardly any students in HSS” said Bhat
Asked
whether these new applicants for setting up HSS already have the required
infrastructure, Bhat said “We have not opened their applications, yes some may
be having the infrastructure and if the need arises the permissions will be
given to start from the coming academic year 2017-18. At present we have
received 4 feasibility reports which will be studied”
Meanwhile,
the education department had received 21 applications from educational
institutions for setting up new Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) across Goa, out
of the 20 applications, 12(aided) were for
North Zone, South Zone, 1 (unaided) and 8 (aided) in the Central Zone.
