Sawaikar was responding to Herald when he along with Environment Minister Alina Saldanha, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida inspected the Dabolim airport terminal on Wednesday. They along with the officials of Dabolim airport had inspected the entire building.
Stating that it was his first visit to the airport as chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee, Savoikar said, “I have brought to the notice of the Airport Authority about beautification of the airport.”
“My first priority will be to make provision for a full-fledged police station and construct toilets outside the airport for the general public,” Sawaikar told Herald.
When it was brought to his notice that Goa, despite being a tourist destination, did not display anything pertaining to its rich tourism, he said he has taken up the matter with the airport officials.
To another observation from passengers that the departure lounge looked like a big dormitory with large panels missing at many places, Savoikar replied, “Goa is a tourism State and before the beginning of the new tourist season, I have directed airport officials to beautify the airport by displaying tourism-related posters and murals.”
Godinho said he had highlighted three observations during the meeting. “I advised airport officials to keep the toilets and airport clean, as they are presently not up to the standard, to put up signage inside the airport and to beautify the departure lounge with murals and paintings with tourism-related posters,” Godinho told Herald.
“As far as traffic management at the airport is concerned, once the flyover is ready all the traffic system will fall in place,” he added.
