VASCO: Goa First NGO on Friday raised concern over the under construction jetty structure at Baina Beach as there is no display of signboard providing project details, permission visible to visitors.

The NGO also questioned about the safety of the swimmers, fishing boats in near proximity of this jetty.
Speaking to the Herald, Parshuram Sonurlekar, of Goa First NGO said, “Goa First had filed a complaint against a construction of a jetty at Baina Beach to the Deputy Collector of Mormugao. Our NGO claimed that the project proponent has not displaced any signboards at the construction site visible to the visitors depicting permissions from various authorities.”
Further, the NGO also claims that no safety measures have been taken during the construction of the jetty since a large number of people visit this beach which includes senior citizens and children.
Sonurlekar said the NGO highlighted that earlier in the year 2017 a similar jetty was constructed which had severely affected the beach as large sand dunes had washed away as no Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) was conducted as the jetty had washed out during the monsoon. This sand erosion has led to the display of large iron metal remains at the beach which can harm swimmers and fishing boats, etc.
Sonurlekar gave reference stating that earlier there have been two shacks allotted but were cleared by the municipality as the petroleum line passes through this beach.
The NGO claims that there cannot be two separate laws for corporate lobby and local residents. The Deputy Collector and Mamlatdar have issued a show cause notice and have personally inspected the site recently and demanded the project proponent to submit the relevant permission and approval.
Goa First claims that this is the only clean site remaining for the people of Sadda Baina and Vasco and no such harmful and non sustainable projects should be allowed on Baina Beach.
