MARGAO: The fate of beleaguered Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva will be decided on Wednesday, even as the 12-member opposition group exuded confidence of voting out the Chairperson from office.
The motion of no-confidence will be taken up for discussion on Wednesday morning at 11 am in the Municipal hall. The Director of Municipal Administration has appointed Deputy Collector Margao Surendra Naik as the presiding officer to conduct the proceedings.
The 12-member group of signatories were seen in Benaulim this evening, giving clear indications that they are together and have not succumbed to offers made from the ruling camp. On the other hand, Chairperson Arthur maintained his eight-member group is intact and will face the motion.
When his attention was drawn to the confidence displayed by the opposition group on the eve of the no-confidence motion, Arthur said in his inimitable style “there’s still a night to go for the no-trust motion.”
Sources in the opposition camp said most of the signatories will stay put at Benaulim tonight and make their presence felt in the civic body on time for the no-trust motion tomorrow morning.
Today, the 11 out of the 12 members visited the Colmorod Sarvajanik Ganesh mandal and sought blessings of Lord Ganesha.
