VASCO: Barely three days after Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe, eight of the 11 members of the Sancoale panchayat moved a no-confidence motion against him.
The eight panchas submitted the no-confidence motion to Mormugao Block Development Officer (BDO) Mohini Halankar, alleging that Borkar had failed to take the panchayat members into confidence while deciding on important matters.
They further alleged that the sarpanch had adopted resolutions contrary to the provision of the law, thereby causing huge loss to the public fund in the form of legal fees.
The notice also stated that the sarpanch was involved in expenditure contrary to the provision of law and without following procedures, besides failing to initiate action on a number of illegal constructions in the village.
Incidentally, three panchas, Derick Vales, Sharan Meti and Govind Lamani, who had supported Borkar to topple ex-sarpanch and Panch Narayan Naik, are the signatories to the no-confidence motion against Borkar. Speaking to Herald, Block Development Officer Mohini Halankar said she has received the notice of no-confidence motion against Borkar, which is signed by eight out of the 11 panchas of Sancoale Panchayat. When asked when the meeting of no-confidence motion is scheduled, Halankar said she will decide on the date and accordingly inform the panchas.
When asked what had made the eight panchas go against Borkar, ex-sarpanch and Panch Narayan Naik, who is tipped to return as sarpanch, cited Borkar’s arrest by ACB.
