MARGAO: Former Chief of Army Staff, Gen J J Singh (Retd) has said that an all out war between nuclear powers is a remote possibility in today’s world order, even as he said that no country is free from the threat of terrorism.
He was delivering a talk on National Security and Leadership organised by Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-op Society Ltd at Fatorda on Sunday evening.
The General emphasised on the need for the modernisation of the armed forces and to meet the security challenges. “An all out nuclear war is out of question in the emerging world order though India is facing low intensity war in the North East and in Jammu and Kashmir”, he said, while calling for improving the country’s defence capabilities.
The unresolved boundary issue with China and Pakistan’s instability were also touched upon by the General in his talk. He said though the boundary issue with China remains unresolved, both the countries have realised that a war on the boundary tangle will not help and benefit people of the two countries.
Gen Singh suggested good governance as a way out to meet the challenges vis-à-vis internal security. He was invited for the function to mark the release of a Marathi version of the General’s English autobiography, which has been translated under the aegis of the Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-op Society Ltd.
Earlier, founder Chairman of the Society, Kiran Thakur welcomed. Dr Vijaya Dev, Anupama Singh, the Director of the Society Ajit Gargatee and the CEO Abhijit Dixit were present.
