Indian Panorama to feature Paa, 3 Idiots

After drawing flak for organisational glitches, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has decided to withdraw its T20 of Indian Cinema contest from the forthcoming edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat told reporters today that the T20 contest has been dropped from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Goa government and Union government for IFFI 2010.
The MoU was signed on October 13 in Delhi which had ESG retaining all the sections of IFFI which it handled during the last edition.
Kamat, who chairs ESG, a nodal body organising IFFI, said that the Short Film Centre (SFC) will also be reviewed. He said that the budget for SFC will be scaled down.
“We are trying to limit the SFC budget this time. After holding SFC this time, a committee has been formed to review the centre,” the Chief Minister told reporters after the Governing Council meeting.
The organisation of T20 and SFC was criticised by local filmmakers alleging large-scale misappropriation of funds in holding these events. Federation of filmmakers from Goa had said that Rs 75 lakh was spent on SFC while budget was Rs 35 lakh was sanctioned.
IFFI 2010, which will be held from November 22 to December 3, also will not have event management firms employed to hold opening and closing ceremonies.
Kamat said that ESG will manage the show for opening and closing ceremonies like last year.
The IFFI delegates will also be able to book movie tickets online through internet. “The kiosks will also be set up across the city where delegate can drop in and book a movie ticket,” the Chief Minister said.
Kamat said that no five-star hotel has shown interest in becoming festival hotel this time forcing the tender committee to re-bid the offer.
“Cidade de Goa, which was festival hotel last time and Hotel Marriott, which is a seaside five-star hotel have made no bids,” he said adding that delegates usually prefer hotels on the beach.
Meanwhile, Popular Bollywood movies “Paa”, “3 Idiots” and “Tere Bin Laden” are among 26 feature films selected for the Indian Panorama section at this year’s International Film Festival of India starting next month in Goa.
The feature films were chosen by a 10-member jury headed by filmmaker N Chandra after previewing 140 movies.
