VASCO: With barely six months left for the council elections, 12 councillors of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday moved a no-confidence motion against MMC Vice Chairperson Premanand alias Babu Nanoskar.
According to former MMC chairperson and Councillor Shekar Khadapkar, 12 councillors have signed the no-confidence motion notice against Nanoskar and submitted it to Director of Municipal Administration Venancio Furtado.
When asked what made the councillors to move the no-confidence motion notice against Nanoskar, Khadapkar claimed that Nanoskar was found involved in illegalities.
Sources in the council told Herald that Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida though not a signatory to the no-confidence motion, is supporting the 12 councillors who have initiated the move.
Sources also informed Herald that though 12 councillors have presently signed the no-confidence motion, there are others who will also vote in favour of the motion.
It may be recalled that within a span of five years MMC has seen seven chairpersons and seven vice chairpersons and with the no-confidence against Nanoskar, MMC is bracing up to elect its eighth vice chairperson.
Nanoskar, who was part of the ruling group, was elected as the seventh vice chairperson of MMC in December 2014.
