PANJIM: In a fresh order, the North Goa district magistrate has directed owners of residential accommodation and commercial place of stay like hotels, guest houses and lodging & boarding to verify bonafides of their customer through government-issued identity proofs before renting out the space.
The order, though a regular preventive measure issued by the district collectors under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, holds great importance at this juncture in view of ISIS threat to Goa and arrest of a terror suspect last week.
“All the owners of the houses, buildings, flats and other residential accommodation and the owners/ management of all hotels, lodging and boarding, private guest houses, paying guest accommodation of religious bodies in the whole of North Goa District should verify the bonafides of persons through their proof of identify,” the order states.
