CALANGUTE: In response to recent incidents of assault on tourists, police in North Goa have ramped up their patrolling efforts along the Calangute-Candolim beach stretch. Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshat Kaushal announced that the initiative aims to create a safer environment for visitors, particularly during the night.

The enhanced patrolling will see additional police personnel deployed from various stations across the North Goa District, ensuring a visible presence on the beaches from Baga to Sinquerim during the hours of 11 pm to 5 am. This move comes as part of a broader strategy to ensure that beach shacks adhere to the mandated closing time of 11 pm.
SP Kaushal stated, “Taking cognisance of the recent untoward incidents that occurred on the beaches, police patrolling has been intensified by deploying extra manpower apart from the existing tourist police personnel.”
A total of 108 police officers have been assigned to various locations, with 35 specifically focused on beach patrols. Additionally, 40 officers will be engaged in nakabandi operations, while 33 will be stationed at static points within the jurisdictions of Mapusa, Anjuna, and Calangute police stations.
The police are also collaborating closely with beach shack owners, the tourism department, and local panchayats to ensure that all tourists can enjoy their time in Goa without fear. “We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all visitors,” Kaushal added.
