PANJIM: Residents of Old Goa on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Director of Panchayats, requesting the postponement of the gram sabha scheduled for November 24.

The demand comes in light of the decennial Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier, which begins on November 21.
In the memorandum, Glen Cabral, a resident of Old Goa, explained the challenges posed by the Exposition. “The exposition attracts thousands of devotees, making it difficult to assemble and conduct the gram sabha. The large crowd and festivities in and around the village will keep residents occupied for the next 45 days. Attending the gram sabha during this period will be practically impossible,” he stated.
Speaking to reporters later, Cabral further elaborated, “If the gram sabha was a priority, it should have been held in October or the first week of November. If it goes ahead on November 24, many residents will be unable to attend.”
The villagers have urged the authorities to reschedule the gram sabha to a more convenient date.
