This security man took shelter in the state after committing a daring heist in Bangalore, before he was nabbed by the Konkan Railway police at the Margao railway station in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Police said that Ishwar Raj Bahadur, a security man engaged by a timber merchant, looted gold ornaments worth Rs eight lakh, besides cash of Rs 2.10 lakh from his owner along with his accomplice before heading for Goa to enjoy with the booty.
The accused is believed to have had a jolly good time in the state with the stolen booty during his brief stay. He is learnt to have purchased a brand new cell phone, besides costumes.
On Wednesday morning, the accused was found at the Margao railway station to board the Delhi-bound Mangala Express, before personnel of the Konkan Railway police detained him on suspicion after he was carrying cash of Rs 83,600, besides the cell phone. During interrogations, the accused spilled the beans and he was immediately placed under arrest under section 41 of the IPC.
This evening, the police sought a three day remand for the accused from a local court and have intimated their Bangalore counterparts over the arrest of the accused.
The Bangalore police are expected to arrive in the state to take the accused into custody for further investigations.
