PANJIM: Town and Country Planning Department has decided that all projects under RP 2021 would be green from January 1, 2019 and till then they will give no permission for projects that are not green.
TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday said that projects will necessarily have to be green buildings. “Under RP there is no development happening but it can happen under 16 B, the amendment done recently, by taking into consideration individual cases,” he said.
Sardesai said that whoever comes with a project, it will have to be green project. “Goa will be the first State in the country which is making green buildings not fashionable but compulsory. If you have to take forward this green movement, you have to make it compulsory otherwise it would be just an academic exercise, nobody will listen as the cost is more, sometimes unaffordable,” he said.
However, he said, eventually it is good for the environment and some incentives have to be given. “Incentive has to be decided whether it will be in the form of tax or FAR but the issue is that Finance and TCP is playing volleyball with the file,” he said.
He said that existing projects approved will be unaffected. “We have to save Goa for posterity,” he added.
