Panjim church, Ponda temple in heritage list

18th century Kapileshwari Temple in Ponda and Panjim’s Immaculate Conception Church are amongst the 400-odd heritage structures listed to be notified for protection by a state-level committee.
Sources said that the committee led by Rajiv Yaduvanshi has prepared an exhaustive list of 434 structures which needs preservation and conservation. The list includes temples, churches, islands, caves, hospital buildings, springs and other structures.
Officials stated that around 109 churches and 17 temples figure in the list. Earlier, the State had only 21 monuments under the Archeological Survey of India and 51 under the State Archaeology Department.
Asilo Hospital at Mapusa, which is in the process of shifting to new premises, is also listed in the structures along with Asilo buiding at Candolim and Hospicio hospital in Margao.
18th century old Kapileshwari Temple situated on the outskirts of Ponda town, which is one amongst the chain of temples located in the areas, has been selected for the heritage status.
