The construction of the proposed second Smart road in Panjim is likely to be dropped after the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) proposed closure of the work due to the non-availability of the required road stretch on time.
During its 28th general body meeting, GSUDA recommended foreclosing the project from Old Patto bridge up to Four Pillars junction and decided that the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) will take a call on the further course of action. The final decision from IPSCDL is still awaited.
Under the Smart Cities Mission, the government through IPSCDL had planned two Smart roads in Panjim after the capital was selected among 100 cities across India for Smart City development.
While the first Smart road — stretching from St Inez junction to Adarsh Colony junction, Miramar — was completed with new sewage lines and utility ducts, the second 1.4-km stretch from Old Patto bridge to Four Pillars junction faced multiple hurdles and missed several deadlines.
The Smart Cities Mission officially ended on March 31, 2025, although some pending work in Panjim continues. The ₹126 crore contract for both roads had been awarded to M/s Bagkiya Constructions Private Limited, Porvorim.
