PANJIM: Para teachers held a dharna outside the BJP office entrance in Panjim on Wednesday, compelling Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to leave the office under police protection. MPs Vinay Tendulkar and Narendra Sawaikar were also stranded in the BJP office for some time and a police force had to be deployed outside the office to avoid law and order issues.
The para teachers staged the dharna protesting their allegedly unjust transfers.
Speaking to Herald, Goa Para Teachers Association president Smita Desai said, “Today we held a dharna as our demands of regularisation were not met as promised and also in regards to the unjust transfers.”
She said, “For 10 years we have been working just as much as other teachers but have not been absorbed on a permanent basis. This is unfair.”
Desai also said that after the protest, the Chief Minister fixed a meeting on November 19. “Chief Minister has given us an appointment for a meeting on November 19 and also directed Directorate of Education to sort out the issue of unjust transfers in a special meeting tomorrow along with the director and OSD,” she added. The teachers said they are afraid as they being transferred, instead of being absorbed.
