The bridge was constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Corporation (GSIDC) six months ago, however its approach roads were completed only recently.
The bridge was inaugurated in the presence of North Goa MP and Union Minister Sripad Naik and GSIDC Chairman Pramod Sawant.
Herald had recently reported that though the Gaundalim bridge had been completed, it was awaiting inauguration as the approach roads were not ready.
GSIDC Chairman Sawant said that the entire project was split into construction of bridge and approach roads. The bridge will connect Marcel with Cumbharjua and it will shorten the distance between Marcel and Panjim.
The bridge will be benefit residents of Amona, Marcel, Sanquelim and Valpoi. The bridge will reduce the distance between these villages/towns and Panjim by approximately 15 kms.
