pernem: The 100-bedded sub-district hospital (SDH) at Tuem which was supposed to get ready by year March 2017 is still awaiting completion. As part of the renovated Primary Health Centre (PHC) Tuem, this is the second stage of making the PHC a fully furnished SDH undertaken by GSIDC.

This project was estimated at the cost of Rs 44.23 crore but the final cost of the project is Rs 49.74 crore. The consultant and contractor of the project are KICONS and Rajdeep Buildcon.
The total area is 11,546.82 sq mt and the ground plus one building, will house the OPD, Gynaecologist, Orthopaedic, general ward, Blood bank, CSSD, Casualty, canteen, Pharmacy, entrance lobby registration staff, changing room, daycares ward, Physiotherapy dept, Community service, Service area, Pathology department and toilet block on the ground floor.
The first floor will house wards, dialysis, OT, ICU, delivery suit, paediatric ward, maternity ward, NICU, waiting area, service area and toilet blocks along with basement parking for ambulances, mortuary vans and two-wheelers.
The SDH will be later attached to GMC as a rural medical centre where several doctors from GMC will undergo internship. The doctors will be also provided with residential quarters and the existing renovated building of PHC will be used for administrative purposes in the future.
The SDH will cater to the population of Pernem and neighbouring villages.
Since the existing PHC does not have all the required facilities, people are forced to travel all the way to District Hospital Mapusa and GMC for treatment.
Mandrem BJP MLA Dayanand Sopte said, “The building is ready but around 30% of the work is yet to be completed. The work was delayed due non-payment of funds to contractors as well as due to the COVID pandemic, which has also affected all the other development projects in the State. Before 2022, this project will be ready to use.”
