BELGAUM: While the Belgaum Diocese observes a Diocesan Day of Pilgrimage to the Miraculous Cross atop Nandgad Hill on March 22, a large number of Goans are expected to join the pilgrimage.
“Christian people of different faith join the pilgrimage to the Miraculous Cross as according to them it guarantees spiritual refinement and tranquillity,” said Bishop Peter Machado. “This year, we expect more number of pilgrims from Goa than last year,” he added.
Set amid the picturesque mountains overlooking the Nandgad Lake, the Cross attracts scores of pilgrims from as far as Kerala, Mumbai, Sindhudurg and different parts of Karnataka.
“Pilgrims come up to the Cross with heavy hearts, petitions and burdens and return with assurance and enlightened minds. Their faith on the healing power of the Cross have cured them of different ailments and relieved them from their tensions and burdens,” said Parish Priest Fr Michael Fernandes.
A member of a Goan family visiting the Cross every year said: “Certainly, a visit to the Miraculous Cross, especially during the Lenten season, is mentally and spiritually satisfying and equally rewarding.”
Apart from special prayer services, Eucharistic celebrations are observed every Friday from 2.30 to 4.30 pm. A grand Diocesan Day celebration has been organised on March 22 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Apart from two special Eucharistic celebrations, a live Way of The Cross will be organised along with confessions.
