MARCEL, JUNE 13
Taking cognizance of media reports regarding encroachments on footpaths by traders in Ponda, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to undertake an anti-encroachment drive from Monday.
It may be recalled that PMC regularly conducted anti-encroachment drives but it did little to deter the traders from blocking the footpath and obstructing public movement.
“Our municipal inspector and supervisor have been asked to clear the footpaths and this is a warning to those traders who keep their items on the footpaths,” said PMC Chairperson Pradip Naik.
“We will not confiscate any item, but if they are not adhering to our requests then from Monday onwards, we will confiscate their material. It is also the duty of the Municipal Inspector and the supervisor to look whether the footpaths are obstruction free or not,” said Naik.
