VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has strictly instructed the Traffic Police and Road Transport Officials to work in sync to curb traffic congestion and haphazard parking at the airport.
During review meeting at Airports Authority of India (AAI) Dabolim office, Mauvin directed the officials to take strict action against taxi operators who violate traffic rules and harass tourists.
He also slammed traffic officials for their “unenthusiastic attitude” in managing the parking and vehicular movement at the airport area.
Exhorting the police not to cow down to the “gimmicks” of the tax operators, Mauvin directed them to go strict on those who do not follow traffic and parking rules and harass the tourists.
He said that the rent-a-cab and bike operators will have their licences reviewed by the Transport Department. “Order is to the Transport Department not to issue permissions for operating rent-a cab and bike. And there will be police verification of taxi drivers,” he said.
Minister also disclosed a plan to ply luxury buses at the airport in near future.
“The basic facilities at the airport such as toilets, air conditioning, pay parking etc will be put in place soon,” he said.
