PANJIM: The rise in thefts, burglaries and snatching cases in the State has caused a serious concern amongst senior police officers who have decided to further tighten security and intensify patrolling, especially at vacated premises.
Sources said the department is alarmed as 100-odd cases were reported at different police stations, especially in the South, from January till the beginning of April. The details of each of these cases were discussed at a meeting of high-ranking police officers held at the Police Headquarters at Panjim on Thursday. It is learnt that the valuables are valued at several lakhs of rupees.
“Shoplifting, bag and chain snatching, auto thefts, vehicle break-ins, commercial burglary, breaking and entering and other general thefts are reported almost every day. Besides the police, we also discussed how residents can prevent ‘crimes of opportunity’. It is a matter of public safety…” said an officer.
