Ponda cabbies want decision on speed governors withdrawn

PONDA: Demanding that government withdraw its decision making it mandatory to install speed governors for tourist taxis, the Maruthi Taxi Association, Ponda has threatened to launch a strike on October 10 to protest the move, which it claimed as injustice to taxi business.
Addressing to media Baban Sawanth along with senior member Krishna Naik said the Government and RTO officials are insisting on compulsory installation of speed governors and are refusing to issue passing and fitness certificates, thereby forcing them to keep their vehicles off-the-road.
He said around 20,000 tourist taxi operators in Goa have decided to join the strike on October 10 against the government’s decision. A meeting in this regard will be held on October 5.
