PONDA: Ponda Police have registered a case against two unknown persons for cheating a Ponda local Govindraja Gupta (57) to the tune of Rs 14 lakh by impersonating as officials of an insurance company.
According to police, the complainant (victim) had an insurance policy; he had paid two instalments of the policy amounting to Rs 1.96 lakh each in 2013 and 2014 and thereafter did not pay instalments.
The two unknown persons somehow came to know about this fact. And recently they approached the victim pretending to be officials of the insurance company and offered to settle the policy and recover his invested money.
After gaining Gupta’s trust, the two accused induced victim to pay cheques amounting to Rs 13.96 lakh, which the victim did. However, they further approached victim for more money to settle the policy which raised doubt in the mind of victim.
Suspecting it as fraud, the victim inquired at his insurance company and learnt that no settlement scheme was introduced by the company. Following this, the victim complained to the Ponda police.
