PONDA: Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar addressed the media in Ponda, expressing regret over the recent incident of electrical appliances being damaged due to a sudden high voltage surge at Durbhat, Adpoi. He attributed the incident to negligence on the part of a rickshaw driver who was carrying a metal roof sheet, damaging neutral lines and causing the surge. Fortunately, the rickshaw driver escaped electrocution.
Dhavalikar expressed sympathy for the affected locals, most of whom are from low-income backgrounds. He instructed the deputy collector and the Power Department to inspect affected houses and urged the police and RTO to take action against the rickshaw driver. Additionally, he appointed a team of local Sarpanch and ZP members to assess the situation and deployed electricians to repair damaged appliances and provide help to those beyond repair.

Regarding infrastructure upgrades, Dhavalikar mentioned that 90% of underground cabling works for four constituencies of Ponda, part of Sanvordem, and Valpoi are nearly 60% complete, with the rest progressing. He emphasised the need for linemen to use safety gloves and equipment during repair work to prevent accidents.
“The government plans to generate 1 MW of solar power at the GEC campus in Farmagudi, with work expected to commence in the next three months. Solar panels will also be installed at Bahusaheb Bandodkar Football ground in Kashimutt to power the ground complex lights. Additionally, maintenance work will be undertaken on toilets and walking tracks at the ground,” the minister added.
