The villagers were without power supply for at least 10 hours and were forced to conduct their religious rituals in darkness. However, the power supply was finally restored at about 9 pm, giving a relief to the residents.
According to reports, the transformer at Nachinola power sub-station developed a major fault at 11 am, due to which power supply from the Nachinola feeder to villages of Aldona, Moira, Pomburpa, Nachinola, Bastora and Ekoshi was disrupted.
Residents of Pomburpa and Ekoshi complained that there was no power supply since 11 am on Friday and the disruption of power supply during Ganesh festival has dampened their spirits. They further complained they had decorated their houses and Mandaps with lights by spending thousands of rupees.
“Ganesh Chaturthi is the main day and we could not celebrate it with enthusiasm due to inefficiency of the electricity department,” said a resident.
When contacted, sources at Nachinola power sub station said the transformer developed a major fault in the morning and they immediately called the officials of MRT of electricity department from Margao.
“The team rushed to Nachinola and detected the fault and then repaired the transformer. The power supply to all the affected villages was restored at about 9 pm,” informed the source.
Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo said after he received complaints, he visited the Nachinola sub power supply and instructed the electricity department officials to restore the power supply to the affected areas soon.
