PONDA: A pregnant woman, who was riding pillion, was injured after falling in a pothole at Ganjem-Usgao on Thursday.
Locals rushed the woman’s rescue and promptly arranged a vehicle for her to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately, she is out of danger and discharged from the hospital but has been advised strict bed rest by the doctor.

Agitated local youths later filled the pothole with cement and placed a Narkasur mask to warn other motorists of the impending danger. The youth threatened to block the road if it was not repaired within next couple of days.
The Usgao-Ganjem road is riddled with potholes, which is frustrating for motorists and locals.
The accidents have increased on this road stretch, thanks to the growing number of potholes, some of which have turned into craters. Usgao junction has become a dangerous spot for motorists not only from the State but also from other States, who travel to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary.
“The road has been in an absolute mess for the last several months and multiple appeals were made to PWD to repair the road before the onset of monsoon. But all requests fell on deaf ears. If the road is not repaired within the next two to three days, then the locals will block the road on Monday,” said Usgao’s officiating Sarpanch Narendra Gaonkar.
