Presentation held on Holy Spirit fair

MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Friday held a presentation on the layout of the Holy Spirit fair for the vendors and other authorities.

It may be recalled that the High Court had recently passed an order to move the fair from the national highway footpaths to the SGPDA Ground. The venue was shifted accordingly, and the SGPDA is now gearing up for the huge task of ensuring that the fair is hassle-free.
On Friday, as part of the planning of the massive 500-plus stall fair, the SGPDA held a presentation on the outlay plan of the stalls and also explained the other facilities to the vendors.
Meanwhile, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has undertaken the work of cleaning the SGPDA Ground. The cleaning has been going since the last two days and will continue till Saturday.
The Green Goa Foundation had filed a writ petition in 2010 against holding fairs on the footpaths of a national highway. After five years, the High Court directed the government, MMC and SGPDA to hold the fairs of the Holy Spirit feast and the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception at the SGPDA ground and the roads leading to the Colva.
The Court had also ordered the fair to be held for only seven days and the MMC chief officer to take action if it continues further.
