PANJIM: The State government on Monday informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that public hearing on CRZ projects will be held only after finalisation of the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).
During the hearing of a petition by Kargwal Constructions Pvt Ltd that challenged repeated postponement of the public hearing, the government further submitted that decision of North Goa Collector has been communicated to the Nauxim Marina project applicant, that is, the petitioners that public hearing will be held only after finalisation of CZMP.

The High Court disposed of the petition on accepting the submission.
In the last hearing, the government had made it clear that it was not going ahead with the proposed marina project in Nauxim. The North District Collector on July 17, 2020, had postponed the environmental public hearing on the proposed marina, scheduled on July 26, 2020.
Kargwal Construction Pvt Ltd, the project proponent, thereafter moved the High Court challenging the repeated postponement of the public hearing.
AHOY Marina, as it has been called, was proposed by Kargwal Constructions Pvt Limited, across 1 lakh sq mts stretch, with land area admeasuring 50,000 sq mts as per the Environment Impact Assessment report. The project was to facilitate small boat, yacht and craft parking and maintenance in MPT water; and approved by the Investment Promotion Board in 2015. It was however opposed by villagers alleging the facility will harm the ecology, marine life and destroy traditional fishing activity.
