CURCHOREM: Despite the appeals to maintain social distancing norms, there were crowds at shops in Curchorem on Friday even as many grocery shops remained closed.

Elsewhere, a joint meeting was held at the Quepem Municipal Council regarding home delivery of essential commodities, which will start on Saturday. Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar, QMC Chairperson Dayesh Naik and others attended the same. Naik stated that that they have decided to commence to supply food items as per the market rate without delivery charge. “We have already procured 3,500 kg of mixed grocery items and have ordered another 10,000 kg goods, which is on the way,” Naik added.
Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council also took the decision to distribute the food items through municipal staff/workers using municipal vehicles in all the wards of the municipality. “We will make packets of necessary basic food items through Sahakar Bhandar and Bagayatdar costing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 each and then we will distribute it directly to people as per their demands, ” said Chairperson Balkrishn (Pinty) Hodarkar.
