Raia Sarpanch Judas Quadros resigns amidst political shake-up

MARGAO: In a significant political development, Judas Quadros has tendered his resignation from the position of Sarpanch of Raia village panchayat, just nine months into his term.

In his resignation letter submitted to the Directorate of Panchayats, Quadros did not provide specific reasons for his decision. However, credible sources have indicated that his resignation comes at the behest of a ruling group composed of six panchayat members.

In conversation with O Heraldo, Quadros confirmed that he complied with the request of the ruling group to step down from his position. He also expressed uncertainty about who would be chosen as the next leader of the panchayat. To recap, Judas Quadros was elected as the Sarpanch of Raia panchayat on August 22, 2022, with the support of six panch members. However, after three months, due to the defection of one member to the opposition, he was ousted from office by a vote of  7-4.

Interestingly, during the subsequent election to appoint a new Sarpanch, there was a revolt within the opposition camp. This internal strife eventually enabled Quadros to reclaim the position with a narrow margin of 6-5 votes.

Now, after serving as the head of the panchayat for nine months, Quadros has voluntarily submitted his resignation from the post. Reliable sources suggest that the ruling group had an internal agreement to rotate the chair among its members, with each member leading for one year,

including for the Deputy Sarpanch position.
