PANJIM: The State is set to witness moderate to heavy rainfall activities from May 14 to 17 in view of formation of a low pressure area in southwest Arabian Sea during that period, which may later intensify into cyclonic storm. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory has advised fishermen, who are into deep sea, to return to coast by Friday.
In a press statement issued, IMD Goa has informed about formation of a low pressure area over southeast Arabian Sea around May 14 morning and it is very likely to move north-northwestwards across southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area and intensify gradually.

“It may intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over east central Arabian Sea around May 16 and continue to move north-northwestwards,” IMD said adding that the development of the system is being closely monitored.
While ruling out heavy rainfall warning for Goa till May 15, IMD said that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds of speed 30-40 kmph very likely at isolated places during that period. Increase in rainfall activity is likely on May 16-17, it added. The fishermen are warned against venturing into sea till May 16.
