PANJIM: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Vinay Tendulkar on Friday welcomed the decision of Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik to return to State politics.

In a tweet, Tendulkar said, “We welcome Shripad Naik ji’s decision of joining State politics whole heatedly. I am sure I can say that on the behalf of all the Goan leaders that his addition to Goa’s political paradigm will be fruitful and advantageous. I have always looked up to him as a mentor.
On Thursday, Naik, a five-time MP had expressed his desire to return to State politics if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) needs his services and gives him an opportunity. At the same time he had stated that he will go as per the party decision and will not clamour for it.
Naik has been Lok Sabha MP since 1999 representing North Goa Constituency. He won Assembly elections only once in 1994 from Marcaim Constituency and lost in 1999 and again in 2002 when contested from Ponda Constituency.
Last month, Tendulkar had said that he wants to contest the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections, if allowed by the party. He had also conveyed his feelings to the State party leaders.
However, both — Naik and Tendulkar have not stated from which constituencies they would like to fight the ensuing Assembly elections and have left the decision to the party high command.
