PANJIM: As the entire nation mourns the death of
the 3rd year PG student from RG Kar medical college in West Bengal who was
brutally raped and murdered, the doctors of Goa Medical College staged a
protest expressing strong solidarity.
They demanded a thorough investigation and justice
to the victim and her bereaved family.
Condemning the ghastly incident, the doctors urged
the centre for a strong, stringent central law for violence against the doctors
to prevent reoccurrence of such repugnant acts in future.
The students and the doctors of Goa Medical
College staged a protest on Friday in view of the brutal rape and murder of a
31 year of doctor that took place in West Bengal.
The doctors demand that they need more severe and
strict laws to be implemented by the centre for the safety of doctors around
the country. The protest will go on till Saturday wherein no services will be
available at GMC but the emergency casualty patients will be attended.
Meanwhile, all the doctors, medical students and
supporting association members will stage a silent march called “Mook
Morcha” from Azad Maidan to the Old GMC Complex on Saturday. This march
will be conducted under the aegis of the Indian Medical Association.
They will be joined by other doctors associations
to demand a safe workplace environment for ladies. The other associations
supporting the Mook Morcha on Saturday will be members of the Indian Dental
Association Goa, Goa Private Dentist Association, Goa Ayurvedic
Association, Goa Nursing Association, Indian Pharmaceutical Association Goa,
Goa Chemist and Druggist Association, and Goa Medical Representative
Association, in support and solidarity.
