MAYEM: The Malabar Gliding Frog, a wildlife species found only in the Western Ghats in the past, was recently found in Poriem-Sattari.
The gliding frog was sighted by environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar and Vivekanand Paryawaran Jagruti Fauz members Gajanan Shetye and Vithal Shelke, who had gone to Poriem to take a stock of nature’s heritage.
According to Kerkar, the Malabar gliding frog flies at a distance of 10 mtrs from one place to another without feathers and makes a nest on the tree situated near water, in which the female frog lays eggs.
