MARGAO: The refurbished retail fish market shed in the SGPDA market should be commissioned by Goa Statehood Day, indicated Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai, while disclosing that tenders were opened on Monday.
He said that one Kandolkar, having quoted 5.24 per cent below the estimated cost is most likely to get the tender as the next highest bidder had quoted the exact estimated cost. While the work was estimated to cost Rs 1,20,77,325, it has been quoted for Rs. 1,14,44,797.
The refurbished market will have trays to be filled with ice over which fish will be placed, so that the purchaser can see the entire fish. Besides, it will also have the walls painted with Goan artistes’ drawings and play piped music.
It may be recalled when Vijai had inspected the market on October 3 and promised to renovate the retail fish market by December 19. He also explained that the re-floated of tenders had led to the delay and government had transferred AE Ajay Raikar.
“I shall be shortly meeting all the stakeholders with regards to the wholesale market where a consultant is already appointed to renovate it completely,” he said.
The stakeholders are ramponkars/magkars, trawler owners, fish traders and public whom he proposes to meet this fortnight to finalise the wholesale fish market that will be constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
He also announced that GSIDC will also undertake the work of rebuilding the Multipurpose complex to house the school, higher secondary school, ITI and college. “With Chowgule College shutting down, Multipurpose College has become important and we have to provide the necessary infrastructure,” he said.
The minister added that the playground at the complex will be of international standard and said the PDA rules may have to be changed to allow the buildings to go higher to provide the needed space for the institutions. He also disclosed that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has directed the GSIDC to inspect the Junta Quarters and Health Department Quarters on Thursday and accordingly decide what should be done.
The Margao bus stand is the next project to be taken up he said, adding that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s proposed bus port may be constructed at Margao to replace the existing bus stand.
He disclosed that the architect was paid nearly Rs 4 crore to prepare plans for the new bus stand.
