Government schools across Mormugao Taluka continue to face neglect from the state Education Department as well as the state Government despite series of Herald reports on Government Primary and Middle schools in Mormugao Taluka. The concerned department is yet to take up repairs of these school premises leaving the students and teachers to suffer.
On March 10, 2016, Herald had reported how the Government school at Mangor hill cries for attention and how the school building, which has highest enrolment among other government schools in Mormugao Taluka, is on verge of collapse.
Herald had also highlighted as to how the main columns of Mangor primary and secondary school building have become weak with corroded steel rods could bring down the building at any time. All correspondence made by ADEI letters to Education Department is biting dust in government files.
“Forget about taking up repairs the department did not even come forward to inspect the school premises and today most of the classrooms located on the top floor of the school building have been leaking during rains,” said a school teachers under condition of anonymity.
Similarly on October last year, Herald had highlighted how Government High School, Vasco Main which is operational in the heart of the port town is forced to function from a dilapidated building at the threshold of the monsoon season. The school teachers had complained that the authorities involved in taking up repairs works only put some concrete cement flooring outside the school haphazardly and never did any repair works inside the school premises due to which the school building has been leaking.
Very recently on June 23 2016, Herald had reported about how leaking roofs, damp walls have become a common problem in many Government Primary and Middle Schools in Cortalim and in Sindolim in Sancoale village. Ironically no steps have been initiated so far by the department to correct the situation even in these schools.
With all this, it only appears that the state education department is not very keen on improvising the situation prevailing in these government schools of Mormugao Taluka.
